Appendix/Missing adsTheory and practice of advertisingEVALUATION 1 Advertising analysisThe message of the adBackgroundOPSM's advertising campaign sells contact lenses, but above all it informs potential customers of the possibility of having a free comfort trial. The magazine ad (Appendix A) is a 1/3 page size placed on consecutive pages creating a flowing story style. The television commercial (Appendix C) plays for 56 seconds and will be shown in prime time slots. There is also a postal brochure (Appendix B); this will be sent to existing contact lens customers on file. The campaign also consisted of a large poster (Appendix D) hung in its store windows. Target Audience This advertisement is mainly intended for people who wear glasses but believe that glasses should not be worn all the time and want to show themselves out without them. From viewing the ads you can tell that it is aimed at younger professional women in their 20s and 30s, with poorer eyesight than most, women who place great importance on their looks and appearance and who are possibly single or who like attention from the opposite sex. These women are highly social and spend many non-work hours in social settings. Hook and Story The advert uses a mix of charm and comedy to grab our attention, the TV advert shows a very attractive young professional woman walking into an upper class bar wearing a pair of glasses. When he arrives at the bar he takes off his glasses and scans the room seeing a gentleman on his right. She then proceeds to flirt heavily with the man and he reciprocates. The woman, however, fails to see that the man she is flirting with is a very unusual-looking man with an unfashionable suit and a strange hairstyle, a man who would classically be associated with nerds. He is usually not the type of man that this type of woman would actually be interested in. The magazine ad and mail brochure show the same key scene. The store poster is a simple image that attracts our attention with the freshness and happiness of the attractive girl shown in it. Main Information Message The ads primarily do not provide real information about the product provided by OPSM. However they are accompanied by a small amount of text. The TV commercial has a caption at the end that says “I need contact lenses?
