Topic > The History and Development of Aircraft - 778

A very influential invention in the early 20th century is the airplane. Since it was designed by the Wright brothers, it has changed in both shape and size. Throughout history people have always found a reason to travel, and now this new type of invention allows people to travel further and move faster. Everyone, regardless of color, race or gender, can travel on this new form of transportation. The evolution of the aircraft has had a major impact on the ability to travel, from the first day the aircraft was created to the modernization of commercial flight. The history of the airplane began with a dream of Wilbur and Orville Wright. They had a dream of traveling through the air, so they sold their bicycle shop and began inventing the airplane. The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, were the first to come up with the design and fly the heavier-than-air plane. They realized their dream in 1903, when they were the first recorded flight in the air with control and power. The flight at the time of the test lasted just over 10 seconds; however, history was made. They achieved something that few at that time could have ever imagined was possible. A couple of years later, people began to realize that they could use airplanes to get people from place to place faster than other forms of travel. 11 years after 1903, commercial flight was born. The first commercial flight took place in 1914, as the St. Petersburg-Tampa maritime airline was called. This airline was the first commercial flight to come into existence. The airline was created to make the trip from St. Petersburg to Tampa shorter and faster. Without the evolution of intrastate highways, travel would take a day or more before either destination was… middle of paper… accident. This is why so many precautions are necessary. Throughout history, the only reason air travel has become so popular is because it is the safest form of travel in the world, even safer than traveling in your own car. The first rule of traveling anywhere is safety. And the creation of the FAA makes air travel safer than many other travel methods we have. Traveling would be very different today if it weren't for the invention of the Wright brothers. The evolution of the airplane from its creation to commercial flight changed the way people looked at travel in the early 20th century. Not only does everyone use this to their advantage when traveling, but everyone can travel whenever and wherever they want. Without the creation and evolution of the airplane what would travel be like?
