From the beginning getting into graduate school was one of my main goals, but the question of how to finance my Ph.D. graduate school education was a major obstacle. In the Middle East there is a clear lack of human rights and more particularly of women. Therefore, it is quite difficult to apply for a scholarship for graduate school, and men have a complete advantage in any scholarship, if any. In 2012, I enrolled at UWM as a sophomore majoring in Biological Sciences. I was fortunate to be a student in Dr. Timothy J. Ehlinger's course where our goal was to understand complex systems in life and especially in science and how to try to solve them in the most efficient way. We conducted a study that will be published in a book chapter written by Dr. Ehlinger. With the excitement of taking the first step into my dream career, after my first semester at UWM, I decided to join the Biomedical Sciences department to pursue my PhD.
