Proposal to save the environment Ever since Ford launched the first production car, there has been a market for gasoline. Since then, the automobile has had a huge impact on the United States, as well as the entire world. This new invention allowed the average citizen to travel to work without the hassle of public transportation and horses. However, with this new supply of automobiles also came the demand for the fuel needed to run. At the time, it was not known that the consumption of these fuels could actually damage the environment or even run dry. Today it is commonly known that these fuels are not unlimited and are not good for the environment. Action is needed to reduce and eventually eliminate these threats to human existence. That's why I propose raising the gas tax by a dollar a gallon. The money generated by this taxation would be spent on programs to find an alternative source of energy, stop pollution and reduce the need for fossil fuels on which the earth depends so heavily. Humans have used fossil fuels for thousands of years. For millions of years they have remained beneath the earth's surface, however recently humans have begun to consume these fuels at an incredible rate. The rates are so high that many experts say the earth's fossil fuel supplies will run out over the next century unless alternative forms of energy are found. Currently one of the most consumed fossil fuels is oil, which in its refined state provides energy to most of the cars, buses and planes used every day on this planet. (#1) Oil consumption is increasing every year and the earth's oil reserves are decreasing. With the danger of exhausting the planet's oil reserves, humanity must continue to search for... middle of paper... states where you might find wind turbines, but there are also others where you wouldn't find them. This is why I would invest more money in alternative energy sources than in alternative fuels. Alternative energy is the future for our nation and the earth. By taxing each gallon of gas a dollar and investing the money in developing my programs I would help protect the environment while continuing to meet the energy needs of the United States. If you think about it, isn't it worth an extra dollar per gallon to help preserve the earth?
