Sponsor Company Description Aéropostale, Inc. is a mall-based specialty retailer of casual apparel and accessories primarily targeting young women and men aged 11 and 18 years old. The company offers customers a targeted selection of high-quality, fitness-oriented and fashionable basic products at convincing prices. Aéropostale maintains control over its proprietary brands by designing, marketing and selling all of its merchandise. Aéropostale products are currently purchased only in its stores, online through its website (www.aeropostale.com) or at sales events held on university campuses. The first Aéropostale store opened in 1987 and as of June 2006 has over 700 stores nationwide. Recently in the last few months a new store opened in the Eagle Ridge Mall located in Lake Wales, Florida. I chose to apply for an internship here based on the conversation I had with the manager and the research I had done on the Internet. Since marketing is a very important part of their organization, I was excited and eager to gain new experience in the area of my specialization. In other jobs I had done there was little, if any, regard to this concept. I was placed in an initial group orientation where we were informed of the rules outlined in the employee handbook. Then, almost immediately, I began learning concepts that would have a huge impact on marketing's role in this organization. Internship Position My internship position was simply that of a sales representative. The internship at Aéropostale consists of several things I have to learn. I need to remember and be able to apply the acronyms BAASICS (Start with a sales presentation, ask for sizes, add, cut and retrieve, immediate floor supervisor, cashiers kicking, say thank you), TBLA (tops, bottoms, layers, accessories) and MOMS (give suggestions, offer solutions, mothers buy most of the clothes, sales). Along with these I also have to learn the marketing terms of how the store is set up, what certain display techniques were called, and how to fold it to specifications. My first goal will be to learn the different acronyms that are so vital to success in this business. To do this I will be questioned daily by others at work, including managers. This way I will memorize these concepts so I can apply them to customers to properly market the store.
