While terrorism – that is, violence or the threat of violence intentionally directed against civilians – has been used since time immemorial as a means to secure political objectives, the 1960s ushered in a completely new of political violence. Motivated by thinkers such as Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, this new generation of terrorism fought in vain to stop the vehicle of capitalism: driven by the opulent and supported by the exploitation of a bloodthirsty working class. Significant among like-minded New Left groups was the Weather Underground Organization (WUO), which conducted a series of bombings to protest perceived American injustice. This expression of hostility by student activists, while far from a true revolutionary movement, stands out as one of the few so-called "terrorist movements" to consistently attack and antagonize on American soil.
