Each year, millions of people immigrate to the United States in search of the American dream. Only to find that their job opportunities are limited. Having no choice but to be hired as domestic workers or agricultural labourers. Much of this is due to strong gender and cultural stereotypes and biases within the United States. Despite the many differences between domestic and agricultural work, many of these migrant workers face the same difficulties and obstacles in their daily lives. We all like to have affordable product prices all year round. But what many of us don't realize is that these affordable production prices come at the expense of others. Migrant farm workers in the United States receive low wages for hard, backbreaking work, forcing many to live below the poverty line. “Every year, 3 to 5 million farm workers and their families work in fields and factories across the country to bring us fresh fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products”[1]. The life of a migrant farm worker and his family is not easy between trying to make ends meet and trying to overcome so many obstacles in their daily lives, that it is almost impossible for many of them to achieve that dream they once dreamed of to realize. Many because they are illegal immigrants are seen as "invisible" which causes them to be taken advantage of and exploited in the world of work by their employers. “The multibillion-dollar U.S. agricultural industry relies heavily on farm workers to produce and harvest the crops that feed and nourish our families” [1 farm]. But despite all the challenges and obstacles to overcome, farmworkers remain strong and work hard to provide a better life for their families and communities. Domestic workers in the United States quite often endure the same challenges and… in the middle of paper……much of our country. They contribute a lot to us. Their work is what makes all other work possible. Without them many things would not be possible. Works Cited[1] “Agricultural Workers in the United States.” MHP. Network.
