Breast cancer is something that terrifies not only myself but also most of the women in my family. My grandmother had breast cancer which caused her to die prematurely. I have three aunts and several cousins who may be at risk for breast cancer. And since most of them live in Ethiopia, Africa, the incidence of the disease is higher. It is very important for me to inform myself about the causes and effects of breast cancer, as well as the treatment. I want to know what possible treatment is available for this problem that might help me or someone in my family respond and give us hope that we can beat it. The most common cancer among women, besides skin cancer, is breast cancer. It is known that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. An estimated 40,450 women will die from breast cancer in 2016 (ACS 2016). There are two stages of breast cancer which are carcinoma in situ (CIS) and invasive cancer. CIS is the early stage of cancer, and invasive cancer occurs when cancer grows into the breast tissue and becomes part of the cancer. It is estimated that approximately 246,660 invasive cancer patients and also 61,000 CIS patients will be discovered (ASC 2016). Breast cancer affects women worldwide, in developed and developing countries. Although this affects the majority of women worldwide, the incidence of breast cancer is higher in developed countries, while mortality due to the effects of this disease is higher in developing countries. The difference in scope between countries is somewhat explained by variations in HRT action and reproductive design, such as age of first child, number of children, age... middle of paper.. . breast cancer patients (Soylar 2016). As women's awareness and level of knowledge regarding the risk of contracting cancer increases, they will visit health centers earlier where they can receive more comprehensive care (Soylar 2016). In conclusion, seeing first hand what breast cancer can do to a person has taught them to be cautious. Furthermore, through this research I have learned more than I can imagine and ways that will help me improve not only my lifestyle but also my family. I tend to eat healthy and don't smoke or drink and try to exercise, but now I can implement this to my family so they can do better to prevent this disease. It showed me how important it really is to get checked out every now and then and be more educated about breast cancer because you never really know if they're going to get through this in their life..
