One of the most important cyclicals in life is fashion. Fashion is an endless cycle of creating new designs and reviving major trends from the past. Every decade a new generation of fashion is born. The sixties were all about love and expression, while the seventies were all about disco and having fun. Then it seemed like a whole new era of fashion was born in the 1980s. Everything about fashion seemed to have a new twist. In the 1980s, the unique style of punk pop greatly influenced Americans across the country. Girls seemed to have gone through a dramatic change during the eighties. Women realized a sense of power and with it came a desire to express this power and their individuality. The dresses worn by the girls would surely have been looked down upon in previous decades, but they would have been welcomed with open arms. Some of the biggest trends included; bold neon colors, loose shirts, tight pants and lots of lace. Although the girls had been sweet and decent before the 1980s, it seemed to give the feeling that I just couldn't contain them. Men also reached their peak in the mid-1980s. In previous decades men typically wore more upscale suits or causal dresses, but like girls they seemed to go out of fashion. Trends such as parachute pants, jackets or vests, cropped shirts, and skinny pants became popular in the early or mid-eighties. Much like women's styles, clothing was usually in bright, bold, neon colors. You might also usually find large sunglasses, Converse, or Vans in a typical guy's closet. Just like girls, men became very expressive and tried to find their own individuality. They seemed to the audience… middle of the paper… people will look back and wonder what was going through everyone's minds and wonder how any of them thought it was cool to dress that way. Sometimes you just have to imagine what was really going through someone's mind at that moment. When you had so many influences in TV and the music industry it would have been unusual not to dress like everyone else. The Eighties were one of the most singular and brightest decades of the twentieth century. Instead of following what needed to be done, everyone pushed the limits and dared to be different and that's what made the Eighties so unique. Works Cited "Madonna". Fashion in the 80s. Np, 2011.
