The globalization of companies greatly helps to make them more competitive and increase their profit share. Globalization usually brings together employees or team members from different financial backgrounds, religions, cultures and in some cases from different sexual orientations. Companies must be aware of diversity and, if necessary, put diversity programs in place to ensure equal treatment of all people. When companies apply equal treatment to people from different backgrounds, companies can become more profitable. If all people within the company do not adhere to either diversity requirements or anti-discrimination laws, companies become vulnerable to discrimination lawsuits and a poor public image. One company that is currently facing challenges with diversity is Abercrombie & Fitch. Abercrombie & Fitch, a clothing retailer, markets its brand to the teen and young adult market. Publicly traded under the symbol ANF, Abercrombie & Fitch posted gross profits of $4.5 billion in 2012. Abercrombie & Fitch posted gross profits of $4.15 billion in 2011. Store furnishings, aroma filling the air inside the stores and the sales staff seem strategically positioned to entice both teenage and young adult shoppers to come in and purchase their items. Their most popular items include designer jeans and t-shirts with the "A&F" logo. Monitoring the rooms of any middle school, high school or some college campuses will demonstrate the attractiveness of the Abercrombie & Fitch brand in the target market.
