Puff, Puff, Pass Marijuana LegalizationMany people long for the time when they can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy some downtime. They could perhaps go for a nice walk in a park, or perhaps sit and enjoy a movie on TV. However, a large number of people nationwide choose to participate in a certain recreational activity to find their relaxation: smoking Marijuana. In fact, “Washington and Colorado are the first to allow adults to use the drug recreationally” (Legalizing Marijuana, par 1). Unfortunately for half of our nation's population, the use of the Cannabis plant was considered illegal. “Before 1937, marijuana was freely bought, sold, grown, and smoked in the United States. Since then, all of these activities have become illegal, but many groups and individuals have fought to decriminalize marijuana” (Rich, par 1). I find it absurd! I believe the federal government should consider what the people want and pass legislation making marijuana legal, but of course have regulations to go along with it. Not only will it please the people of the United States, but our economy could benefit greatly from the legalization of cannabis and it helps with medical care. It would be in our nation's best interest to have legislation that legalizes marijuana not only at the state level, but also at the national level. People ask themselves: “What is the point of legalizing marijuana? It's a drug for a reason." Well, I, along with numerous others, ask myself: “What are these reasons? What's the point of keeping it illegal? One of the reasons to legalize the “drug” is that it can save/make the United States of America a great deal of money. “Nationwide, law enforcement made 1.5 million drug arrests in 2011, more than 40%… middle of the paper… drug should be legal everywhere.” The Huffington Post.
