What makes a person educated? Theodore Roethke once wrote in his poem “In dark times, the eyes begin to see” (Roethke). His quote meant that when we are in the hardest time in life and there is no hope, that's when we start to realize how important life is to us. We face many difficult and troubling circumstances in life that we are unable to prevent. But it happens so that we can learn from them to improve our lives through the impact it could have on us, and through that, we become educated people in the society. As we could see in Khaled Hosseini's novel "The Kite Runner", an Afghan character named Amir Jan decides to visit his hometown to correct the mistakes and pain he caused in the lives of those who defended him in moment of need. Amir tries to overcome his guilt by asking for forgiveness, but when we stand up and decide on a way to overcome it, we begin to feel at peace with ourselves. Because of this, Amir had learned to forgive himself and others helping him overcome the life of lies he had lived during his childhood. This made Amir a wiser person because he had learned the truth about his family and realizes that what his father told him was a lie. Through this, I realize that we have all been educated during the situation we face
