Firearms have been the weapon of choice for some of the most brutal massacres on American soil. Since ancient times, firearms have been used primarily for militia and defense purposes. But the development of new gun technologies has made firearms more accessible and deadly. Although the Second Amendment gives the right to bear arms, guns should be controlled and monitored by the government because they have contributed to many murders in America and will increase crime rates. Gun control can be defined as “the use of law to restrict people's access to handguns, shotguns, shotguns, and other firearms” (“Gun Control”). In other words, the government initiates a series of of new rules that give them the right to strip and monitor firearms owned by gun owners. The new call for lawmakers to recognize and reform gun laws is present today because statistics show how firearms have contributed to murders in America and to horrific tragedies. According to GunPolicy, an average of 100,000 people are killed in the United States every year. Of the 100,000 people killed, some of these victims are children, bystanders, fathers and mothers been responsible for 32,163 deaths in America (Alpers). Firearms have been used recklessly and have caused the deaths of thousands of Americans, increasing the death rate. If gun control were in place and approved by lawmakers, deaths in America due to guns would not be that great. What also contributes to these facts is the ability to obtain guns for violent criminal acts, which is why the government needs to suppress and monitor firearms. The ability to obtain guns has contributed to higher suicide rates, and gun control laws will limit access to obtaining them. the… middle of paper… To solve this internal problem that America is facing, America should pass laws that control gun activity in America.
