Should tobacco and alcohol advertising be allowed on television? The ban on tobacco advertising is already in force, but alcohol is another harmful substance. Should liquor advertising be allowed if tobacco cannot advertise its product? The ban on advertising tobacco products on television and radio was passed through legislation in 1970 by Richard Nixon. This argument, like others out there, has two sides, one side in favor of these ads and the other against these ads. Since both of these substances are highly addictive and expensive. Would we want these ads to continue? Do these advertisements represent the danger they are conveyed? Through researching these two important sides, this essay will explore which side has a stronger position on the topic. This is one of those questions where two people will give different answers to a question and believe they are right. A group of people would say that it is wrong to glorify tobacco and alcohol through television advertising. They would state health concerns and a concern for the viewer. As some people are minors or there are people who struggle with addiction. Would it be humane to show photos of a drink to an alcoholic? How about showing food to a hungry person? But ultimately, by not giving them food, these things stimulate thinking and the need for the object. While the other group would say that they have the right to advertise their product. They might say that an alcoholic should be stronger in the battle or to escape the tempting situation. They would also state that it is the responsibility of parents to communicate the dangers of these products.
