Monitoring and measurement The objective of measurement and evaluation is to evaluate whether the implemented management system is effective. Recording and documenting results is essential to reducing illnesses and injuries at work. There is an urgent need to establish OHSMS objectives, develop performance measures, collect applicable information, and evaluate results. In order to ensure performance, effectiveness and implemented controls, the OHSMS must be reviewed regularly. Question three Employer commitment to safety management practices The employer is able to demonstrate its active commitment to health and safety in the workplace, A proactive employer demonstrating active roles in health and safety safety, which involves its staff rather than those who adopt a permissive approach to health and safety are more likely to have a safer working environment. The health and safety policy is usually a short written document signed and dated by senior management. The document should comply with codes of practice, legislation, regulations and safe operating procedures. By signing the health and safety policy, senior management takes responsibility and shows commitment to health and safety in the workplace. This policy must be reviewed every two years. Confirmation of the review must be supported by documents such as meeting minutes. To continually improve this policy, changes can be made if there are new ideas on how to improve health and safety within the organization. Planning, review and evaluation For an OHSMS to be effective, continuous improvement would be necessary. Ideally, this is done by senior management together with employees. Planning…middle of the paper…recording and investigation An employer must have a reporting, recording and investigation system that records all accidents, injuries or near misses. This system allows the employer to take a proactive role in preventing or managing risks. This is also important because the employer would be able to understand if a risk-taking tendency develops and would be able to implement changes to prevent future injuries. Employers should have an incident reporting form that determines why the incident occurred, how, what time and who was responsible. Employee need to know where accident and injury forms are located so they can fill them out promptly without any delay. Management must express interest in investigating accidents and injuries. They will have to demonstrate that corrective measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence.
