Solving Environmental Sustainability Problems The restaurant business is one of the most important types of business in the world. Restaurants feed thousands of people every day and also provide employment opportunities for others. Mary is the owner of a thriving restaurant that offers customers full bellies and employees a nice salary. One day, Mary decides to do a detailed inspection herself to confirm that the restaurant is running properly and smoothly. When Mary began the inspection process, she found many problems, such as wasted water, excessive use of paper products, no recycling containers, and the packaging material is not environmentally friendly. It's not the end of the world yet because there is always a solution to every problem. Although restaurants lack environmental practices, there are solutions that can be adopted to resolve these issues. From time to time, people like to go out for a bite to eat with family and friends instead of staying at home to cook. Going out for a nice dinner is like a quick and easy escape because it takes people's minds off the stress that occurs in their daily lives. A small restaurant like Panera Bread is a franchise where people of all ages can dine in or get takeout. Furthermore, there are many varieties of food choices such as sandwiches, hot sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, hot desserts and of course the very famous freshly baked bread. Even though the restaurant is known for its eco-friendly vibe, it is not. Panera Bread is just like all the other restaurants that don't pay attention to what is wasted on a regular basis. From the moment a restaurant turns the sign from open to closed, new customers are waiting to be... middle of paper... sing a waste composter, which is quite cheap, and place biodegradable material in there. The fewer landfills, the more land there is for local parks and nature trails that people can take with their families. As a final point, owners like Mary will begin to understand what can be done to run a beautiful and environmentally friendly restaurant. Water bills will be reduced so much that the actual profit from them will double. The amount of paper saved every day will add up and show other customers why it is important to recycle and use biodegradable products. The act of one restaurant going green will change others' minds about how to be more cost-effective and how to keep the environment sustainable. Works CitedEnvironmental Defense Fund.
