The government of Oceania has virtually eliminated all other crimes, as no good, honest, respectable citizen would ever go against Big Brother's wishes, at least not in public. While the government can eradicate all the books, records, music, movies, and publicly treasonous people it wants, there will never be true conformity, true obedience, true ignorance on the part of their citizens unless the emotions that control them , their original ideas, their passions, or anything that represents their humanity, is erased. In the words of the Party “War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength”. Through mottos, slogans and a new language that erases individuality and expression, Orwell highlights the ever-present danger of conformity and forced obedience in a totalitarian system.
