IntroductionContext of the StudyChild abuse is a global problem that has received enormous attention in Western countries. The term “child abuse” refers to intentional acts that cause physical or emotional harm to children. Child abuse covers a wide range of behaviors, from physical aggression by parents or other adult caregivers to neglect of a child's basic needs. Traditionally, society places the responsibility on the parent or adult to care for and guide the best interests of their children. Observations have shown that parents or guardians differ in their ability to care for and protect their children. Therefore the extent of child abuse is difficult to measure, cultures around the world have different standards in dealing with what constitutes child abuse. In Sweden, for example, the law prohibits any physical punishment on children, including spanking. In contrast, in some countries in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, parents are expected to punish their children by beating them. Usually, there is nothing wrong with this, but in cases where families or adults engage in practices that interfere with or inhibit a child's overall well-being and educational development, it calls for serious concern in Africa in general they cannot be left out in these performance issues. They often have feelings of guilt and lowered self-esteem. In most developing countries, the use of violence against children in the name of discipline is rampant among parents and adults.
