Topic > Based on the two different phonetic approaches...

Introduction In this assignment a range of phonetics will be mentioned and two of them will be discussed in more detail. The two phonetics that will be taken into consideration are the synthetic one and the analytic one. Different sources will be studied to answer the above question. Sources show that synthetic phonics appears to be more effective in the teaching process than analytical phonics. History of phonicsPhonics derives from the Roman text The Doctrine of Littera. It is the systematic teaching of the sounds conveyed by letters and groups of letters and includes teaching children to combine and blend them to read or write words (Stickland, D Page 5), such as "shh", so that children learn this , they will first learn the sound of the letter and then they will sound it in simple words, and in this case they will put their finger on their lip, another example could be the word 'cat', it can be read from its three sounds: cat which therefore represents a phoneme . Therefore phonics should be taught as needed, in the context of learning to read and write and teachers should ensure that children are familiar with phonic patterns, teachers must also ensure that they teach phonics using the right method as can be taught in various ways. Phonics is the sound of the 26 letters or alphabets and the sounds of the groups of letters they represent. All phonics helps the student focus on the relationship between sounds as symbols as an important strategy for word recognition. Overall, effective phonics incorporates phonetic awareness, provides sufficient practice in word reading, and leads to word recognition. There are different types of phonics approaches, including analogy-based, embedded, synthesized... middle of paper... The government policy was clear that phonics should be taught and to do this it ensured that teachers had to have the necessary knowledge to carry out the task, therefore phonics was taught in infant classes, using happy phonics as a basis. John Stannard, the former director, says that "if you have a child who says a word, it helps for them to know what the word means." While experts debate the best method to teach reading, teachers remain the key to the strategy's success. Ofsted reports have suggested that literacy teaching is not good enough, this may be because there may be confusion about changes already made to strategies. Stannard states that many teachers are too slow at teaching and that by the end of the first year they should master the entire code base.
