While many students claim to be involved in the medical field, including myself, ultimately, only a few students act on their interests at a young age and go forward to pursue the field. Therefore, students who are sincere about their interest have a tendency to portray interest in smaller research experiments, being in a medical field regardless of any materialistic rewards, and being able to experience the real work of someone from the medical field. Even though I am fifteen now, my interest in the medical field grew at an early age. While most young children were afraid of visits to the doctor, I was quite fascinated by how much one person could do. At that age, I remember reenacting surgery on my stuffed animals by cutting slits in them, then repairing them with Band-Aids, and finally allowing my mother to sew them back together. Shortly after these events, my elementary school made it mandatory that every student in grades three and up conduct an experiment or project to present at the school science fair. Even though I was only in third grade, the projects I chose were always classified as microbiology or medicine and health. After finally reaching sixth grade, I was able to participate in the regional science fair. Even then, while I was carrying out a project on the effects of yeast, I managed to win second place. Year after year, my projects continued to advance, and in eighth grade my project reached a higher level when I had to prove whether hand sanitizers actually killed 99.9% of bacteria as they claimed. This project received third place at the regional science fair. In my freshman year of high school, I was finally able to compete in the senior division, and I conducted...... half of the paper... It also allows me to familiarize myself with common equipment and treatments, which is very necessary for students who intend to enter the medical field. Exposure to different areas of medicine is very beneficial, as medical school does not initially focus on just one specialization. I would also be a great asset to the program, as I am sociable, needed to interact with patients, and I am also responsible, which makes me eligible to handle expensive equipment the hospital may own. I also don't get scared at the sight of blood, which can potentially be dangerous. The program also teaches certification in basic first aid skills, which are necessary regardless of the field a student wishes to pursue. This program would be a great experience during the summer and would also give me a chance to experience the life of medical staff in the field.
