Hindu-Arab Mathematics Different cultures have influenced the advancement of mathematics over the years, causing controversies and revolutionary discoveries over time. Although Greek and European civilizations have been credited with most of the innovations associated with mathematics, the Indo-Arabic culture has made some of the greatest contributions to the subject. It is believed that Indian mathematicians have not been given credit or recognition in the history of mathematics, as Western civilizations have taken their known work and copied it as their own. Some of the Hindu contributions to mathematics include the areas of arithmetic, geometry, algebra, mathematical logic, general mathematics, trigonometry, and the development of the currently widely used Hindu-Arabic number system.
