A young woman driving the SUV that crashed into a pond Sunday in Ohio, killing six teenagers, did not have a driver's license, reports AP and on basis of the accounts of the two surviving men; Police say Alexis Cayson was driving too fast on a winding road with a 35 mph limit. In fact, survivors say he accelerated as he approached a turn known as Dead Man's Curve and lost control. Meanwhile, nine other teenagers were killed in two other crashes, NBC News reports. In rural Will County, Illinois, four high school students ages 15 to 17 were pulled from their vehicle this morning after it ended up overturned in a creek last night, the Chicago Tribune reports . The car appears to have gone through a guardrail and over a bridge, perhaps after hitting ice or standing water. In Dumas, Texas, five teenagers were killed when the car they were in ran a stop sign and collided with a fuel tanker, the AP reports. All five, aged between 15 and 17, were pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday. The driver of the truck is in critical condition (Taylor). There are many other accidents with teenage drivers killing themselves and others. On an after school ride the teenagers become very distracted, for example the radio is blaring, the phones ring and vibrate endlessly and the teenagers chatter excitedly and distractedly about whatever life or death situation has occurred between the seventh and eighth hours of that day. This typically wouldn't be a problem for an experienced driver who can block out distractions with the necessary concentration skills that only time and practice can perfect. Yet, with a sixteen-year-old who recently got his driving license, the lives of all the car's passengers become more at risk with every inch of travel...... middle of paper ......ost, 9 9 2008.
