When Lady Macbeth is trying to gather the strength to carry out the murder, she describes her blood. During his soliloquy, he says, “And fill me from head to toe to the core / With the most atrocious cruelty. Make my blood thick” (1.5.49-50). These lines show that the blood is a symbol that Lady Macbeth is evil. He wishes to be cruel and feel no remorse for the murder. Compared to Lady Macbeth, King Duncan's blood is described extremely differently. As Macbeth describes why he killed the guards, he says, “Here lay Duncan, / His silver skin entwined with his golden blood” (2.3.130-131). Duncan's blood is golden. This represents Duncan's goodness and kindness. Lady Macbeth's blood and Duncan's are completely opposite, as are their characters. In conclusion, blood is used to symbolize characters, especially Lady Macbeth and Duncan
