Criminal justice and the Christian is a course that deals with topics that concern both the field of criminal justice and that of Christian theology. It helps us as students examine the crime we see daily in our world and the punishment that comes after through the eyes of Jesus Christ. Seven different topics were discussed in this course that in many ways related not only to the criminal justice career but also to the Christian perspective. The themes are ethics and Christian morality, the sources of moral orientation, the Justice of God in Jesus and Paul, the ethics of punishment, the theories of criminal punishment, the Justice that kills and finally forgiveness. Gaining knowledge on these different topics, after discussing in class and doing a comprehensive assignment on a death row experience, has definitely strengthened my views on how I view the death penalty. Taking the view of the general population, supporters of the death penalty say it is an important tool for preserving law and order, deters crime and costs less than life imprisonment. They argue that punishment or "an eye for an eye" honors the victim, helps console grieving families and ensures that perpetrators of heinous crimes never have the opportunity to cause future tragedies. By listening to different opinions I could see another side that is more Christian. Through continued research I have been able to see people who committed horrible crimes change completely. For example, the story of Karla Faye, a woman involved in hard drug trafficking and described as a wild child who killed a man in the most disturbing way, was sentenced to death, but became a changed woman during her incarceration period . Through the videos you could see that his character was not the same as when he started. Through this story I learned that even through difficult circumstances a person can be changed. Also, that God is present even in prison and sometimes that is where some If I have learned anything from this course, I know that we are called to be like Jesus in everything we do. We are called to be an example of what Christ has done for us, that is, to show his love, compassion and forgiveness and not to compromise with the society in which we live. Even if we continue to live and follow the laws of this country that we are
