Children's Blizzard by David Laskin takes you through the events and hardships of the Blizzard of 1888. The storm came quickly and with great hostility, surprising everyone in the area of Midwest. The meteorologist failed to send a terrible message, informing people about the storm. The blizzard was called "The Children's Blizzard" due to the number of over 200 children released from school during the storm, leading to their deaths. In short, the book contains many stories of different families, people and children and their experiences with the blizzard of 1888. David Laskin shows the reader that courage is the quality of mind or spirit that allows a person to face difficulty or danger without fear. , or having courage, or the ability to do something scary. For example, at Groton School, Walter had a lot of courage and responsibility as a row monitor. Being a line monitor meant that Walter had to take everyone's coats and put them away at the beginning and end of the day. On this particular day, however, the children did not need to wear coats. That is until the unexpected blizzard hit the Midwest. Groton School evacuated all the children and teachers and loaded them onto wagons. As soon as Walter got into the wagon, he realized that he had forgotten his beloved bottle of perfume with which he cleaned the blackboard. Walter jumped off the wagon and headed towards the school. As a result, Walter did not know that the wagon would be gone when he returned. Walter soon became too cold to function and lay down in the snow. Later, Walter's older brother Will found him. Walter was unconscious, but still breathing. Eventually, Will was able to get him to his father's office. Walter and Will... in the center of the card... dig a deep cave in the straw so they can all fit in. May continued to take roll call to make sure all the students were still alive. That is, May showed courage through her ability to do something that scared her: keep children alive by seeking refuge. David Laskin defined courage in his novel, Children's Blizzard, as the quality of mind or spirit that allows a person to face difficulty or danger without fear, or to have courage, or the ability to do something frightening. Walter showed courage when he risked his life for something he truly loved. Likewise, Grace showed courage and courage when she decided to help and find her son. Likewise, May Hunt showed her ability to do something even if it scared her, she had to save the children. The amount of courage needed during this calamity was remarkable.
