Publix Super Markets IncSuper markets are few and far between in the South. There are many different variations within a very small region and when one becomes your favorite it's usually because it's comfortable. However, throughout the local Jacksonville community and throughout much of Florida, Publix supermarkets have made a very valuable impression on its current consumers. Founded by George W. Jenkins on the idea that what makes a company successful is how it takes care of its customers but also its employees. With Publix being one of the top eight privately traded companies in this industry, as labeled by Forbes' Largest American Private Companies List, those who wonder what makes Publix so different. Publix Supermarkets has a rapidly developing and rapidly motivated group of competitors. This allows the market to have interesting trends and advance rapidly. According to the Food Marketing Institute website, there were thirty-seven thousand and fifty-three companies in this industry in 2012, which puts Publix at the top of buyers' lists. Being employee-owned is one of the characteristics that current workers contribute to the company's success. Focusing on the well-being and progress of your team members has given them a sought-after job pool. The framework that will compare Publix Super Markets and its competitors is the five forces competition model. The five aspects that will be discussed are the threat of new entrants into the market, the bargaining power of suppliers and buyers, the threat of substitute products, and the rivalry between competing companies.
