The American legalization of gay marriage The legalization of gay marriage is a controversial issue that even makes some Americans fear that it could ruin the morals of the United States. However, before people decide whether it should be legal, they should examine our government's laws, the effects that living in a gay household has on its victims, and the science of loving someone of the same sex. There are many laws in our Constitution that are contradictory to ideas about legalizing same-sex marriage such as: separation of church and state, “no-fault” divorce laws, etc… Additionally, scientific studies, on children living in single-parent families gay, are amazing and beyond the realm of expectation. Another fact usually left out of debates about lesbian/gay marriage is the amount of benefits and perks denied to gay couples. Finally, the most important debate of all, excluded from almost all arguments in court rulings, is how being gay is natural not only in human life, but also in that of other animals. The United States Constitution was created to give Americans freedom of choice, speech, expression, etc… However, something that most people don't understand is that in the current debate over same-sex marriage, our government leaders are trying to use the fair and just laws of our Constitution to prevent some American citizens from expressing the freedoms afforded right through our government. For example, some argue that banning same-sex marriage will “protect” heterosexual marriage; however, many American states have accepted “no-fault” divorce laws. This means that heterosexual married couples can divorce without cause. If the citizens of the United States were truly concerned, then stopping this… medium of paper… different, doesn't mean it's wrong. Gay marriage should be legal.
