Founded in 2008 by the merger of: Templeton College (1965) and Green College (1979). Men and Women - Postgraduate only 550. It is easy to think that an ancient university like Oxford remains locked in an immutable and timeless environment, where tradition reigns at the expense of modernity. Of course no institution could survive for 800 years without being adaptable and this university is nothing if not opportunistic. Individual colleges that don't change to fit the times disappear or are swallowed up by their neighbors. The dynamic nature of the university continues today with two established institutions, Green College and Templeton College, recently agreeing that their interests would be best served by merging and pooling resources. Neither was a "traditional college"; both were young, vibrant colleges that shared a similar egalitarian philosophy. Academics believed that the Greens' interest in human welfare and Templeton's specialty, business and management, could be reconciled easily and productively. The proposal was discussed long before it became official, and after positive support from the university, Green Templeton College came into existence in October 2008, becoming the university's newest college. Templeton College was founded in 1965 after much effort by two Oxford academics: Norman Letland, bursar of Brasenose College and Sir Norman Leyland Earden, of Nuffield College following a large charity from Clifford Barclay. Templeton was a graduate-only college that focused on recruiting the brightest students into business and management studies. Originally established as the Oxford Center for Management Studies, the institute was renamed Templeton in 1983 after a substantial donation from...... middle of paper......sed a heliometer, now resident at the London Science MuseumIntellectual Independent PersonalityGreen Templeton aims to attract a diverse mix of self-motivated graduates, with independent intellectual personalities. It provides members with an egalitarian environment that doesn't involve a high-top table and a single common room. A range of both on-campus and off-campus accommodation is available to students, typically for two of their three-year stays. Space is limited for couples and families. Both combined institutions had a strong sporting tradition that continues. The Stables Bar offers the opportunity for a lively social life, offering a range of activities, with members encouraged to take initiative and start new societies. Green Templeton now caters for 550 graduates, with more than half coming from outside the UK. Members of both colleges moved to give a total of 200.
