Beauty is a very abstract idea. As for human beauty, in today's society there are celebrities and pop stars to look for as the ideal man or woman. At first this idea may seem quite normal given the amount of fame and fortune celebrities have. Upon closer examination, many celebrities have undergone various plastic surgeries to manipulate themselves into the so-called "perfect" shape. Some famous people have performed so many surgeries on themselves that people believe they are shapeshifters because every time they see them something about their appearance has changed. Most of the perception of beauty in the current era is spread through the media. In times when television was less widespread, people had no way of watching others. There were no movie stars and artists to be considered as a symbol of beauty. Now, the desire to look as beautiful as a famous actor or pop idol sometimes deprives American society of discovering true beauty. In fact, young and old suffer from illnesses like body dysmorphic disorder because they start to believe they don't look good. This indicates that the idea of beauty in today's society has a negative effect on the population and manipulates people's self-esteem. Elizabeth Landau, CNN journalist, in her article "Patients with body dysmorphia see details, not the whole face" (2010), explains that people are obsessed with one or more body characteristics usually present on the face, suffer from the disorder of body dysmorphia. Use statistics to show that 1-2% of the population suffers from this disorder. She uses this statistic to show why people seek plastic surgery. According to Feusner, a UCLA psychiatrist, "everyone else would consider them attractive but they don't consider themselves... middle of paper... ...to be and how beautiful they are. These people treat beauty with contempt. Beauty it is not a one-dimensional concept, it is an abysmal realm that contains a plethora of possibilities. Some aspects of beauty have beauty within, such as beauty is not just about external appearances because they do not always define a person. however, that's how they come judge people. People who are made fun of because of their appearance are treated unfairly and sometimes seek things like plastic surgery to deal with their problems a bit like Heidi Others want to look like a certain famous person and do all the their efforts to duplicate someone else when they should simply be themselves. With today's dark mood it is difficult to imagine whether the truth about beauty will never be discovered because the media will continue to influence the population..
