Topic > Muslim Brotherhood Overview - 803

Islamic fundamentalism is based on Islamic ideology. It is also seen as a group of religious ideologies that seek to return to the fundamentals of Islam. The Muslim Brotherhood was born in Egypt in the year 1928. The Muslim Brotherhood is an anti-colonial and transnational Sunni Islamic movement, which is attempting to integrate Islam into politics and government. Members of the brotherhood believe that the Quran and Sunnah should be the basis of government (Johnson, 2014). The Muslim Brotherhood is not only found in Egypt, but has spread to over 60 countries to try to attract more people to the group. They have many ways to connect with strangers to influence them to join, some of these ways are prayer meetings, political involvement and social engagement. Members of the brotherhood include Ayman al-Zawahiri and leader Hassan al-Banna. Some members branch out and are leaders or important people in Islamic fundamentalist groups such as Al-Qaeda and Hamas. Today the Muslim Brotherhood has two important principles: “1) The introduction of Islamic Shari'ah as the basis for controlling the affairs of the state and society. 2) Work to achieve unification among Islamic countries and states, primarily among Arab states, and liberate them from foreign imperialism” (Johnson, 2014). The Brotherhood continues to try to integrate Islam into politics and government today. In recent years, fundamentalist groups have emerged to become a major political force in the Middle East. There are many Islamic fundamentalist groups in the world, some of these groups are Hamas, Hezbollah and Al-Shabaab. The most infamous group is Al-Qaeda. These are not the only groups in the world, there are many others. Researcher Bruce Hoffman found that 26 of the 56 f...... half of the paper......le East. Different religions are becoming more and more popular, and in Israel the main religion is Judaism. Al-Qaeda's main goal is to drive out Western influences so they can live according to their own Muslim religion. Western culture isn't the only thing Al-Qaeda is trying to drive out. They are also not happy with the Western military presence. After the tragic attacks of September 11, the United States invaded Afghanistan. Since that invasion we have troops stationed in military bases and Muslims are not happy. The US military occupies a good amount of territory in several countries in the Middle East. Some countries that are shocked by this are Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Afghanistan. These are not the only causes of these fundamentalist groups. Another cause is the economic problems in the Middle East. These third world countries can completely destroy the dreams of Muslims.
