The Man Who Walked In YesterdayINTRODUCTIONWilsonWilsonWilsonWilsonWilsonOnce upon a time there was a mountain that rose from a vast green forest. And in the forest there were birds, lakes, rocks, trees and rivers. The forest was also inhabited by a small group of people called lizards. The lizards were a simple people and lived undisturbed in the forest for thousands of years in absolute peace and tranquility. Once a year, when spring arrived and the first flowers began to appear, the lizards gathered at the foot of the mountain to give thanks for everything they had. They thanked the birds and they thanked the lakes and they thanked the rocks and the trees and the rivers; but above all they thanked Icculus. Icculus lived at the top of the mountain, or so everyone thought, because in reality no one had ever seen him. But they knew it existed, because they had the Friendly Helper Book. Icculus had given the Friendly Helper Book to the Lizards thousands of years ago. It contained all the knowledge inherent in the universe and had allowed the Lizards to exist in harmony with nature for years. And so they lived; until one day a traveler came to Gamehendge. His name was Wilson and he was immediately intrigued by the Lizards' lifestyle. He asked if he could stay and live in the forest; and the Lizards, who had never seen a stranger, were happy to oblige. Wilson lived with the Lizards for a few years, studying the methods of the Book of Friendly Help, and all went well. Until one morning they woke up and the book was no longer there. Wilson explained that he hid the book, knowing that the Lizards had become dependent on it for survival. He declared himself king and enslaved the innocents of Gamehendge. He cut down trees and built a city, which he called Prussia. And in the center of the city he built a castle, and locked in the highest tower of the castle lay the Helping and Friendly Book, forever out of reach of the Lizards. But our story begins in a different time, not in Gamehendge, but on a suburban street on Long Island, and our hero isn't a king sitting in a castle, he's a retired colonel shaving in his bathroom..
