Theodore argued that Napoleon's illness negatively helped the entire campaign, so much so that Napoleon was unable to raise the morale of his troops during the campaign. Throughout Napoleon's campaign on the European front he was always able to interact and give speeches in front of his entire army which helped boost the morale of the troops exponentially. However, during the Russian campaign, Napoleon fell ill with an unknown illness that left him unable to interact for a long time. Communication is the most important aspect of war because without communication you cannot organize an army. An army's morale is also very high at the beginning of the war, but will steadily decline as the war progresses, so moral support such as better speeches and accommodations would have helped the morale of the troops.
