Culturally, Spain and Portugal imposed their religion on the natives, provided by the Catholic Church, new racial and social classes arose in the Americas, and diseases killed many natives. In Europe, the importation of new foods has led to an increase in population and a general improvement in health. The Americas did not benefit from the Colombian exchange while European countries did, but it was not always positive.
