“We must always remember that America is a great nation today not because of what the government has done for the people, but because of what the people have done for themselves and for each other ”. ~Richard NixonAn effective president should be able to set goals, have moral convictions, and be a source of inspiration. One leadership role that an effective president should possess is that of commander in chief. It is very important for an effective president to be honest and determined. Having previous tenures increases effectiveness. Richard Nixon was an example of an effective president. Richard Nixon attended Fullerton Union High School. He enjoyed debates and public speaking. Nixon later went to Whittier High School and entered as student body president and debaters. Once he finished high school, Richard Nixon went to Whittier College. At Whittier College he pursued his interest in American government. He received a scholarship to attend Duke University Law School. At Duke University he was president of the Student Bar Association and a member of the law review. Nixon moved to Washington D.C., where he joined the Office of Price Administration. Richard Nixon also attended the Navy. He ran for Congress in 1946 and successfully won against his opponent. In 1950 he ran for senator and defeated his competition. The Republican candidate for president in 1952 chose Nixon as his running mate at the Republican convention in Chicago. These events gave Richard Nixon prior experience and knowledge before taking office. Setting goals is a key characteristic of being an effective president. Being able to set goals not only benefits you in the office, but it lets people know the goals you want to achieve. Richard Nixon... in the center of the newspaper... is a boon to the United States. Nixon was phenomenal in business and foreign policies. It helped connect the United States and make peace with many foreign places. Nixon signed many laws that helped the environment or equality. For example, he initiated the Emergency School Act to help end school segregation, created the Family Assistance Plan, which helped poor families, single-parent families, and families with dependent children, and Nixon signed a Treaty of peace and many others. Richard Nixon contributed massively to foreign policies. Nixon opened trade with China, which benefited our relationship with China and trade. We have also established relations with Russia. Without Nixon's presidency, our foreign policies would not have been as successful as they were after his end of office. “If you don't take risks, you won't suffer defeats. But if you don't take risks, you don't get wins.”
