The functional analysis perspective describes poverty as essential to the structure of society. Because poverty has always been important to the wealthy, it is difficult to predict how society would function if these structures changed. Overall, for functional analysis poverty is crucial to maintaining the balance of power. As mentioned above, poverty helps one to do jobs that others cannot do. Furthermore, the poor can also help the rich with their demand for jobs. However, although poverty can be considered positive from the perspective of functional analysis, the situations of the poor can be considered unjust from the perspective of conflict theory. Because the poor tend to have fewer advantages in society, they have difficulty accessing the resources that the rich have. Poor people are usually limited to advance due to their environment or education. Since the rich will always have that power, it is almost impossible for the poor to advance. Ultimately, the symbolic interactionism perspective shows that poverty has its stigma. For most rich people, the poor are always seen as a whole. Therefore, if a poor woman works as a stripper, those who have emerged from poverty will assume that all poor people work in “low” jobs. This is the image that the upper class receives, and this causes them to create meaning about poverty. In conclusion, poverty is a topic that can be defined from the points of view of functional analysis, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism. All these sociological perspectives show poverty as an essential social part of the structure of society. However, it is also a group that strives for equality, which pushes the rich to develop generalizations based on them
