“Magic comes from tricks you don't see. It's the magician's way of intertwining what's right before your eyes with something subtle, something hidden. It's a fusion of your expectations of what should happen with the delightful surprise of something much more creative. (The Hidden Magic of Disney p.5) Is Walt Disney World really what it seems? Cinderella's castle shining in the background, Main Street USA rolling out the red carpet for visitors who wander through every day, and Mickey Mouse, who is front and center for all of Disney. Every year millions of people walk through the front doors expecting to see Snow White, Tinkerbell, Donald Duck and Goofy. They want to ride thrilling rides, visit Tomorrowland and Frontierland, and see all the characters from their childhood come to life. These people are so focused on the main concept and the big picture that they are blind to the little things that actually mean so much to Walt Disney World and paint a whole new picture, a puzzle of sorts, that people need to understand. Yes, it may be "The Happiest Place on Earth", but what lies behind the intricate doors? What is there but goes unnoticed? What is the underground? Walter Elias Disney, better known as Walt Disney, always had a plan. His plan wasn't just to make "The Happiest Place on Earth", he wanted to create, inspire and teach. At the opening of Disneyland in 1955 Walt said, “To all who come to this happy place; Welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives the beautiful memories of the past... and here young people can savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, dreams and facts that created America... with the hope that it is a source of j...... middle of paper ...... and too alarmed. Just beneath the park are the Utilidoors, the underground tunnels through which the actors move from one park to another. Mickey Mouse can be found walking around headless, Alvin, from Alvin and the Chipmunks, has his costume spread out all over the hallway, and Cinderella can be seen walking around and humming a tune.
