Change is often met with opposition, skepticism and even euphoria. All three of these sentiments were expressed with the announcement of the major league baseball team Atlanta Braves' search for a new stadium to begin the 2017 season. The Braves' current stadium is known as Turner Field, which they originally completed built in 1996 to host the 1996 Summer Olympics, it will be demolished in 2017. The Braves have announced that they are moving forward with construction of a new stadium in Cobb County, located in the northeastern suburbs outside of Atlanta. The location of the new Cobb County Stadium far surpasses Turner Field's downtown location. The proposed Cobb County location is between Interstate 75 and Interstate 285 and will provide multiple access points to the stadium. There are numerous highways and secondary roads that will ease traffic congestion before and after the game. The proposed land for the new stadium is approximately 60 acres. However, the stadium will only occupy about 15 acres. The remaining 45 acres will be used for parking and mixed-use development. The site will accommodate approximately 6,000 parking spaces and the mixed-use development will consist of shops, restaurants, bars, residences, offices and hotels. The 60-acre complex is designed to entertain sports fans all day long and not just for the game. If additional parking is needed, there are approximately 30,000 parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the proposed stadium location that will have access to a circular shuttle. The total cost of the Cobb County stadium project is estimated at $672 million, which will consist of both public parking and private funds. Public funds coming from… middle of paper… could derail the start of construction. As stated at the outset, change is often met with opposition, skepticism, and even euphoria. Opposition and skepticism will be overcome. In 2017, the Atlanta Braves and metro Atlanta fans will be elated on opening day of their new CobbWorks County Stadium CitedByanes, Mark. “The Atlanta Braves are getting a new stadium and yeah, it's ridiculous.” The Atlanta Cities Place Matters (2013): n. page -Mark Byrnes.
