She never went to school. Instead he worked on the plantation with his family. At the age of 7 both his parents died. She married at the age of 14 to Moses McWilliams. They had a daughter named Lelia. Mrs Walker was widowed at 20. After her husband's death, her daughter and her mover moved to St. Louis, Missouri.
