Topic > Persuasive Essay on LGBT Youth - 2037

LGBT protection policies are legitimate enough to seek to abolish bullying and discrimination against LGBT students, but they are not the only things that need to be done. GSA clubs have been found to be critical to a healthier school environment. “Schools with GSA report feeling less isolated, show a greater willingness to be involved in school and community activities, experience more positive social relationships, and show greater academic motivation” (Currie). Implementing LGBT-related material into the school curriculum is also a great way to bring the whole school together and educate them about sexual orientation. Some students who are not well informed tend to react violently because they simply do not understand the topic. So, if a student doesn't understand why a peer is homosexual, he or she will act aggressively towards him or her through bullying or harassment. I believe that all three actions taken to try to abolish harassment of LGBT youth are sufficient. Schools have done everything they can to try to ensure a safe environment not only for LGBT students but for all students. Now, perhaps the real reason why there is still harassment in the school environment may not be because schools do not provide them with a safe environment, but because there are some students who have grown up with different beliefs than others and with different ideas about it which is right and wrong. Not all students are the same and unfortunately we cannot control what happens at home.
