Topic > The Effectiveness of Shakespeare's Modernization

William Shakespeare was thought to have been born on 23 April 1564. At the time of his birth, children were not formally registered and birth certificates were not produced, but we know that children had to be baptized three days after their birth and his baptism was on the 26th, hence the date (Literary Genius). Shakespeare was one of eight children, which was actually quite small for a family of his time as families lived in fear of the infant mortality rate ("Shakespeare Facts"). The only one of Shakespeare's siblings to survive him was Joan II. He was named after his older sister, who died after just two months of life. She loved William with all her heart and was proud to see him become even more famous in the years following his life. William's family lived in a quiet market town in Great Britain, known as Stratford. William, specifically, lived on Henley Street where his father had lived a year earlier ("Facts about Shakespeare"). His childhood home is now restored and turned into a museum for all to see and enjoy. John Shakespeare and Mary Arden are the parents of William Shakespeare. John was a glove and leather goods manufacturer, but also sold wool and barley to make a living. He was also once elected to the city council, but was eliminated due to his debts (BBC News). Maria was the daughter of a wealthy landowner and had numerous children with Giovanni. William's childhood was apparently normal. He only attended King Edward VI Grammar School until he was 15. He was sent to this school because his parents could afford not to send him to the real world to help provide for their family ("Shakespeare Facts"). After leaving school at 15, he never attended college again but that didn't stop him... from being heard by this slowly decaying world. Works CitedBBC News.
