Lady Macbeth is a deep and complicated character. She has many internal demons that she can never come to terms with, which inevitably lead her to suicide. She is seen as an evil and devious woman, but it goes much deeper. She has high hopes for herself and uses her husband and his love for her to achieve them. However, all the things he wanted ultimately lead to tragedy. When Lady Macbeth is first introduced, she is reading a letter from her husband, Macbeth. He tells her about his meeting with the three witches and their three prophecies. What worries her most is the prophecy that Macbeth will become king. He decides that they must kill King Duncan. He then asks for strength to commit the murder. “Of the most atrocious cruelty! Make my blood thick, close the access and passage to remorse. (Act 1 Scene 5 Lines 41-42) She is the one who plans the whole murder. When Macbeth returns home he tells him of their plan. He is worried and she sees it. She tells him, “Just look up. Changing favor means fear. Leave everything else to me." (Act 1 scene 7 lines 69-71). He plans Duncan's murder while Macbeth tries to decide whether to go through with it or not. It seems that he has found the strength to go through with it. This shows a cruelty that women should not have suffered in this time period Women were seen as the fairer sex and were not capable of coming up with such terrible plans The character of Lady Macbeth goes against the views of women Macbeth plays the perfect guest when he welcomes Duncan to his home. He bows and says, "All our service in every point is done twice, and then done double." . He never lets it appear that he has something t...... middle of the paper ......dinner 1 lines 37-38) Then he tells of the murder of Banquo. “Wash your hands; put on your nightgown; don't look so pale!” (Act 5, scene 1, lines 53-54) Lady Macbeth suffered from many things throughout the play Most of the things she suffered were caused by her, both directly and indirectly it is ultimately her downfall. Her ambition is also one of her husband. Lady Macbeth had many of the same flaws as the play's greatest tragedy powerful, intelligent and strong woman. She also had many things that led her to suicide, such as ambitious, cunning and mischievous. She is a perfect example of how the need for power and the gaining of power are two dangerous things.
