Topic > Essay on Injustice in Australia - 759

Across the world, throughout history and in the present day, injustice has affected us all. Whether racial, sexist, discriminatory, disadvantaged or worse, injustice surrounds us. Australia is a country plagued by injustice since the day our British ancestors first set foot on Australian soil and claimed the land as their own. We have killed many indigenous Aboriginal people and also taken away Aboriginal children from their families; this is known as the stolen generation. On the day Australia became a federation in 1901, Australia's first Prime Minister, Edmund Barton, created the White Australia Policy. This allowed only white people of color to migrate into the country. Although Australia was the first country to allow women to vote, women did not stand for Parliament until 1943 as many of us did not support female candidates, this was 40 years after the Act was passed in the Australian Parliament for women's participation in elections. . After the events of the Second World War, we made an effort to put an end to these problems here in Australia. We Australians are completely unaware of all the suffering, pain and sadness we have imposed on Aboriginal people since we first set foot on their land. We killed them in cold blood as we had several disagreements with the aborigines. Evidence even shows that all Tasmanian Aboriginal people were killed and became completely extinct. We gave them diseases they didn't get before and we exterminated most of their population and we also took Aboriginal children away from their biological parents. The idea behind this was that they would then mate with other Australians which would get rid of their tribal blood, causing them to become extinct. This… middle of paper… these numerous events in our nation's history have demoralized our reputation with other countries globally. To make ourselves known to other nations as a better country, we completely abolished the White Australia Policy, gave Aboriginal people back their freedoms and were also the first country in the world to recognize women's rights. Australia today is one of the most multicultural societies on Earth and we definitely follow our values of unity, acceptance and freedom. Throughout our rich history, we have overcome these problems by making great changes in our country by promoting multiculturalism and giving everyone a fair chance, which means giving everyone the chance to live a healthy and prosperous life. But despite these changes, Australia was once plagued by injustice. Australia has a good reputation now, but our horrible past will never be forgotten.
