“We know that it is not what we have been that counts, but this and always this: what we will be.” This quote from Angela Weld Grimke herself explains how important her future was to her. He was defiantly the type of person who wanted to change the world and people's opinions to make a change for the better. She also knew there were ways to improve herself, and this was something she would strive for in everyday life. Angelina Weld Grimke was the first African American to succeed in the theater. From his magnificent plays to his great published poems, Grimke changed the world of theater in ways the common person wouldn't even realize. With her hard work and determination to be as educated as possible, she achieved theatrical standards that no other African American could in the early 1900s. The fact that Angelina was so educated when she graduated was good, but why got that education originated from some significant factors. Angela Weld Grimke was an agent of change as an African American writer who used her education and writing skills to promote theater for minority groups such as African Americans. The role his father played in his life and his educational experiences helped form the main basis of his many successful plays. Her father Archibald Grimke played an important role in her life since she was a child. Her parents divorced when she was very young, her mother moved away, and she never saw her again. Since her mother left her at an early age, her absence is thought to have been the cause of her interest in the theme of motherhood in many of her plays. His father, being a journalist and vice president of the NAACP enc...... middle of paper ......what people read these days, is a little old fashioned. Grimke didn't care about the criticism she received, she simply learned to take the good with the bad. Although he wrote a large number of plays, unfortunately these did not become very popular until after his death. Overall, Grimke's impact on the theater world was not as significant as most, but considering he was from a minority group and it was very difficult for minority groups to become widely popular at the time, he had a profound impact on African Americans and helped white society realize the discrimination that people of color have had to endure over the past century. His writing had helped change the minds of those who discriminated against minorities, especially African Americans and women. In the end, just like in his quote, he achieved his goal of becoming someone admirable and exceptional in the future.
