To what extent has the Internet created a global media market? Use relevant examples to illustrate your points. The media business has become global under the globalization of capital. Most of the large media institutions in different countries have taken their steps into the global media market. The emergence of the Internet accelerates the creation of a global media market. In this essay, in the first and second sections, the expansion of the use of the Internet in contemporary society and the digitalization of traditional mass media will be briefly introduced. The third section will examine how the Internet helps produce and access media information globally. Next, the advantages of the Internet over traditional media will be discussed. The Internet has reconstructed people's lifestyles. Meanwhile, the regulation of government control in today's networked society has changed, which contributes to creating a global communication arena. The final section will discuss some problems of the Internet as a global media platform. In Marshall McLuhan's book Understanding Media (1964), he developed a prophetic theory of the "global village." He argued that “electrical circuits have overthrown the regime of time and space and pour upon us instantaneously and continuously the worries of all other men” (McLuhan and Fiore, 1967, cited in Tomlinson, 1999, p153). It accurately describes today's networked society, as people can transcend the temporal and spatial boundaries of the Internet to access information and communicate with others.
