When I was a high school student, I was interested in science to a certain extent, but I didn't believe I was cut out for a science career. In fact, I didn't even consider studying science in college until I participated in the Watershed Watch program at UNH. The two-week environmental science seminar was intense. Led by expert scientists, students had the opportunity to gain fundamental knowledge of basic information and research techniques and to use that knowledge to conduct their own scientific research. My experience in the program reawakened my nascent interest in botany and transformed it into a viable and fascinating area of study. For months, I eagerly identified beautiful plants I saw to anyone nearby. My goal is to extend this kind of renewed appreciation and love for science to others. I have always wanted to make some type of positive impact in the lives of others and I can't think of a better way to achieve this goal than to be a high school life sciences teacher.
