Lung CancerThere are more than one million people who suffer from cancer every day in the United States. Lung cancer is not the only type of cancer but it affects many people and families every day. Lung cancer affects the lives of its patients and their families. Lung cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer and also one of the most common. Every year hundreds of thousands of people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the United States alone. Additionally, nearly as many people die of lung cancer in the United States each year. I will talk about lung cancer and what it is, how to reduce your risk of getting it, its statistics, research and treatment. According to "Medical News Today" cancer is a disease caused by an overgrowth of abnormal cells on one or more lungs. The cells often back up into the air tubes and this can cause difficulty breathing. Due to excessive cell production, tissue cells often begin to overproduce; which causes tumors. There are two types of tumors: malignant and benign. Malignant tumors are the more dangerous of the two due to their invasive nature; which makes it cancerous. Although benign it is non-invasive, in other words non-cancerous. This is why cancer spreads to multiple areas and can sometimes be very difficult to fight. Cancer cells are abnormal not only because of their evasive nature, but also because of their irregular life cycle. Instead of expiring like a normal cell, they continually grow and duplicate, causing the disease to spread. This makes the cell abnormal in shape and other qualities; known as sickle cell. Due to the high rate of growth and reproduction of cells, the spread of cancer is faster. Each cancer has a specific symptom, for lung cancer the symptom... in the center of the card... effects that can result from chemotherapy such as nausea, vomiting, hair loss, fatigue, mouth ulcers and more. Radiotherapy is quite harmful but not that painful with side effects. Side effects of radiation therapy are cough, fever, chest fullness, pain and fear. Many times surgery is not an option, but when it is it is one of the best options because there are fewer side effects and no strenuous treatment. One of the reasons cancer is such a bad thing is because the treatment is not good, but research is ongoing and working to become more effective. I talked about lung cancer and multiple parts of it. I hope that one day cancer will be cured by me or someone else. Lung cancer numbers are very high but have minimized over the years, so things are improving. I hope you learned something from reading this, I learned from writing it.
