Pediatrics is an exciting and challenging field that I consider to be the only career choice for me. My interest in the discipline was strengthened during the pediatric internship rotation, when I was particularly attracted to the special bond between pediatrician, patient and parents, while working towards the best outcome. I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Aleppo University in Syria with a very good overall average. Then I was accepted into the pediatric residency program at Damascus University Children's Hospital, which was the only tertiary pediatric center in the country. Eventually, in 2001 I became the youngest licensed pediatrician in Syria. Subsequently, I worked in primary, secondary and tertiary centers, in Syria and Saudi Arabia until 2013. In 2014, I joined the McMaster NICU as a clinical associate, where I improved my neonatal technical skills and became more familiar with the Canadian healthcare system.
