The setting and tone are made scarier because the appearance of the room is not described. This allows our imaginations to run wild. The room is where the narrator watches the old man sleep and ends up taking his life. The tone of the story is one of terror, sadness and nervousness. The narrator of the story is a sad, paranoid and nervous character. His life doesn't seem to be going very well, because he lives with the old man. The story doesn't explain why the narrator lived there, but if you have a roommate your finances may be frayed. The Tell Tale Heart is a short story full of imagery and symbolism. After the events of the night, the three bad characters from the beginning of the story, just wanted to go home and curl up in the covers.
