What is culture? The definition of culture explained by the English anthropologist Edward B. Taylor in his work Primitive Culture: “Culture or civilization... is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, art, morality, law, the customs and other capabilities acquired by man as a member of society.” (Ataphors). Furthermore, culture represents people's habits and is an important part of every society. Culture binds the people of a community together, gives an individual a unique identity, and serves as a founding principle of an individual's life. First, culture unites people in a society. Furthermore, culture gives common interests to each other in their society. For example, Deepa Kartha points out, “culture is essential for the existence of a society, because it unites people” (Kartha). Therefore, this common bond is what unites people in a group or region. Furthermore, Goodman's essay implies: “It provides a powerful bond for personal loyalty and loyalty between peoples” (Goodman). As a result, people who do not live in the regions where their culture exists will seek out others with the same traditions for camaraderie. Furthermore, this link explains why these regions of the world have communities composed of a certain culture; for example, China Town is a small region in the city of Melbourne, Australia, which has all the Chinese beliefs, morals, customs and food. Furthermore, the people who work and live in China Town belong to Chinese culture. Furthermore, the culture of a community gives a person his or her individuality. Communities will have different languages, foods, customs and traditions, which differentiates one group of people from another.
