The 8am to 4pm shift is the largest, I often completed tasks that would otherwise be completed by permanent staff, so overcrowding would been equated to a lack of productivity among some staff. Although the department was equipped with fairly standardized equipment: cameras, video cameras, microphones, laptops, desktop computers, etc. There is some equipment that doesn't work, especially computers. As an intern I was always eager to work, but there was one inconvenience, the office only had 2 desktop computers up/working, so we had to alternate times between tasks. It also had a working main phone line and alternation between calls had to occur, thus slowing the pace at which the work ultimately got done. I have placed a high value, standard and value on every work experience I have gained over the years which have all contributed to my development and overall professionalism. Although I spent little more than a month at CCN, my time there was invaluable and critical in shaping my perspective as an investigative journalist. It helped me think critically about how to approach sources and contributed to my oral, written and communication skills. My activities in communications actually began in Carimac, Uwi Mona, and as such I learned the fundamentals of writing for print, television and radio. While all three aspects of journalism are fundamental, they employ different writing styles and different approaches. At CCN, I discovered the corporate communications writing style to some extent, which also incorporated public relations to a lesser extent. Since I was asked to name a numerical value on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 is the... ... middle of the paper .... etc. As far as taking the initiative I never hesitated, I never thought twice, I just did what had to be done. The standard procedure of a CCN staff member the department acts as police/journalists. Even though they have been trained to communicate using the department's communication model and style, they perform the dual role quite effectively. The CCN taught me in the field best practices on how to hold the camera, how to point it, how to size the different shots and how to become a courier of the story without getting into it. He also asked that each staff member and intern perform each task correctly, primarily by writing only concrete details. Second, we had to verify all reports of reported incidents, confirming that report with field officials who were qualified to talk about it..
